The music of Nigeria includes many kinds of folk and popular music, some of which are known worldwide. Styles of folk music are related to the multitudes of ethnic groups in the country, each with their own techniques, instruments and songs. Little is known about the country's music history prior to European contact, although bronze carvings dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries have been found depicting musicians and their instruments. Nigeria has been called "the heart of African music" because of its role in the development of West African highlife and palm-wine music, which fuses native rhythms with techniques imported from the Congo, Brazil, Cuba and elsewhere. Highlife was an important foundation for the development of several popular styles that were unique to Nigeria, like apala, fuji, jùjú and Yo-pop. (more...)

"Earthrise", the first occasion in which humans saw the Earth seemingly rising above the surface of the Moon, taken during the Apollo 8 mission on December 24, 1968. This view was seen by the crew at the beginning of its fourth orbit around the Moon, although the very first photograph taken was in black-and-white. Note that the Earth is in shadow here. A photo of a fully lit Earth would not be taken until the Apollo 17 mission.

First started in 1998, Canada's Walk of Fame recognizes the achievements and accomplishments of successful Canadians, including actors, directors, athletes, coaches, Film producers, Record producers, singers, musicians, dancers, authors and artists. The walk spans 13 blocks in front of the Roy Thomson Hall, the Princess of Wales Theatre, and the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, Ontario. Every year, several new Canadians are inducted, with eight being honoured in 2007. There are a total of 107 honourees.
